With the revitalization of Downtown St. Catharines well under way, including MZE's design for the Carlisle St. Parking Facility, the Meridian Centre Spectator Facility (ARCHITECTURE 49), the Marilyn I. Walker School for the Fine and Performing Arts (Diamond Schmitt Architects) and the First Ontario Credit Union Performing Arts Centre (Diamond Schmitt Architects), private investment is now more viable.
The Owners of this property on St. Paul Street asked MZE to design a two storey addition on their existing building that will include 24 new bedrooms. The design intent for this project was to, as always, provide for the Client's requirements, and provide a design for the addition that does not just sit on top of the existing building, rather it wraps around and frames it. The City has referred to this project as a catalyst for revitalization in this part of the City which has not yet seen much recent investment.
This project is currently under construction, located between the Niagara Artists' Centre and the Silver Spire Church.
